Being the first day I came to class with the little information that my school provided me in the field of biology. 24th may 2011
1st Day
Well I knew that I had to deal with a lot of biology here. I had biology till the 10th grade and was hoping it would help but I remembered very little of what I had been taught. Being the first day I came to class with the little information that my school provided me in the field of biology. Through the day I realized there was an abundance of information which we needed to know in order to do well in the competition. We learnt and discussed about cells, DNA, genes and proteins, synthetic biology etc. After a long day in college we got our first assignment today which again requires a lot of research work.
25th may 2011
2nd Day
In today's class we did DNA extraction by using test-tube, salt water, detergent and alcohol. First we rinsed our mouth with salt water for two minutes and poured it out into the test-tube and then added detergent which led to the formation of white substance at the bottom of the test-tube. Once the detergent settled down we added alcohol which further led to the formation of white thread like structure called DNA at the top of the water level in the test-tube.
